Proposed Cell phone ban in School zones in HV

Hi Folks,

The highlight of tonight's HV Council meeting I think will be in the early work session.  Item 2 addresses the banning of the use of hand held cell phones in a school zone.  Not very novel I guess because we are the third community from our surrounding area that has either banned the use of hand held cell phones in school zones or is in the process.  I would suggest that the problem is not just with cell phones but with food, drink, ipods, or anything else that does not allow 2 hands on the wheel.  Could we not be novel and ban one handed driving in school zones?  That would take care of the other hazards as well as hand held cell phones.  Amazing that in the write up about the ordinance that the use of hand held cell phones is referred to as a hazard to school children because it disrupts concentration on driving.  We still do not have a stop sign at Barnett and 407.  I think we all believe this is a hazard to school children.   I wonder how HV hazards achieve their rank with respect to importance.

I am running for Mayor because I think that there are things that I can do to help The City of Highland Village to move down the road toward a bright future.  We need to spend our tax dollars wisely, preserve the beauty of our community, protect our citizens with strong fire and police, and have a mitigation strategy in place for hardships that may impact our citizens and long time businesses.  We must also help to preserve our environment.  I will work with the rest of Council to use energy saving practices with respect to City Facilities.  In addition I will work diligently with council to strive to be an example for North Texas in the use of passive energy sources that might include solar and wind.  As Mayor I will do everything in my power  to convince my colleagues that tax relief for our citizens on fixed incomes must be a priority. I  will need your help in making this possible so please contact me with your concerns and suggestions.
