Question for the City of Highland Village

Hi all,

Jay Parsons had an interesting article  in the Metro Section of the DMN today about the Double Tree Ranch property on the NE side of town.  As many of you know, there has been a change in ownership of the Double Tree to an investment group.  They at one time proposed a gated retirement facility for the property.  Also the City has been interested in a combined development plan with Lewisville oriented toward support of the DCTA rail line.  This is generally referred to as a plan for Transit Oriented Development or TOD.

If Jay Parson's article is correct, it would appear that now is the time for the City to involve residents from the area most effected by whatever development takes place in the Double Tree vicinity with residents that  are less effected by this development to help define an acceptable development path.  A TOD consultant is under contract by both Lewisville and Highland Village to create some TOD guidelines that outline a development plan.  Since there is no impending development currently planned, the City could put in place the appropriate zoning guidelines that have a better chance of being acceptable to all residents.  I believe that the only way to accomplish this is by resident involvement in the process.

As always, please send me your comments and don't forget to vote May 10.

The campaign I believe has begun

Hi all,

I saw my first campaign sign for Mayor yesterday so I think the campaign has begun.  My signs are now ready and I hope to have some up soon.  I decided to reuse some of my signs from 3 years ago rather than dispose of them.  A little masking tape can go a long way.  You will see blue and orange signs in yards soon.  I am not trying to win the sign war but want to have enough signs placed such that folks know who I am.  If you want one in your yard, email me by clicking on the email button on the upper right.  I will deliver post haste.

I also have some grocery bags to give away that you can take to the store to have your groceries loaded into.  They are cloth and reusable.  If you have a dog, I also have a present for him.  Yes, there is a slogan on each but I don't think it will be too obtrusive.  Let me know what you might need.

If you have any questions, please ask and don't forget to vote on May 10.

I am running for Mayor because I think that there are things that I can do to help The City of Highland Village to move down the road toward a bright future.  We need to spend our tax dollars wisely, preserve the beauty of our community, protect our citizens with strong fire and police, and have a mitigation strategy in place for hardships that may impact our citizens and long time businesses.  We must also help to preserve our environment.  I will work with the rest of Council to use energy saving practices with respect to City Facilities.  In addition I will work diligently with council to strive to be an example for North Texas in the use of passive energy sources that might include solar and wind.  As Mayor I will do everything in my power  to convince my colleagues that tax relief for our citizens on fixed incomes must be a priority. I  will need your help in making this possible so please contact me with your concerns and suggestions.
