Our parks and trails - 3/4 full
Hi folks,
We are very lucky in Highland Village to have the extensive available park land that we do.
We have done a nice job developing most. Parkland is one of the true amenities a community can have that promotes
a sense of well being to residents and visitors alike. Highland Village is very fortunate to be located in an area where
the natural surroundings compliment this sense of well being without the need of much help from the City.
What
is the one quarter that is missing? The addition of more landscaping along our Inland Trail and a development
of the trail that we have around the south side of Lake Lewisville. With the addition of the land being dedicated by
a developer on the north side of Northwoods Blvd, we now have almost a continuous trail from near Copperas Branch Park on
the east to Castlewood on the west. This then also connects to the Inland Trial in Castlewood but needs a crosswalk
to cross 2499. This street crossing at 2499 and the electrical power easement would protect folks that want to utilize
the inland trail that runs from 2499 back toward Copperas Branch. The improvements would not be very expensive to complete.
So as always, what do you think. Should this little bit of park work be done as part of this years budget
or is it not a priority? Let me know.

Half Empty versus Half Full
Hi again folks,
I think it is interesting that the news is usually about something being "Half Empty" or
"HE". Politics most of the time is focused upon "HE". If everything was Half Full or "HF",
I suppose that news writers and politicians would have nothing to talk about. Can things always be better, done more
effectively, and cost less to do? Of course.
I am hoping that the campaign for Mayor is one that is focused upon
"HF". I will be talking about things that might add to the good that has already been accomplished.
I would suggest that we may be closer to "Three Quarters Full" or "TQF". I think that we need just
a bit to really go over the top. I may take the next few days to talk about "Three Quarter Full" or "TQF"
with respect to Highland Village.
As always, I welcome your input. Don't forget to Vote May 10.

Highland Village residents that are in Peak condition
Hi folks,
This will be a bit different than the other posts that I have done but thought you might like to hear about
two of our residents and the adventure they will have in March. Highland Village residents Scott and Kathy Hudson will
be climbing Mount Everest. Both Scott and Kathy have been very active with the Parks Foundation in Highland Village
with respect to improving our trails around the Lake. Besides their commercial real estate business, Scott and Cathy
also own and manage an Adventure Race Promotion company. www.terrafirmapromo.com/
This is really neat if I can be so old. Now, they are not going to the summit but to Base Camp. This trek
takes about 3 weeks total time from Dallas and ends up at 17,500 feet. Needless to say, the trip up is a bit difficult.
The other neat part is that they will have an opportunity to work with the Sherpa guides and the famous Yak.
Scott
is arranging to carry a Satellite phone that would allow us to trace his and Kathy's route to Base Camp. How would
we trace their route you ask? I am hoping to arrange for this to happen with the establishment of a link directly
from Scott to the Satellite and broadcast to the Highland Village web site. I think this would really be interesting.
As always, what do you think?
Remember to vote May 10.

Xeriscaping.
Hi Folks,
I am in Chicago today looking at all the snow and got to thinking about Xeriscaping. So what in the
world is Xeriscaping? Xeriscaping is landscaping that is put in place that does not require much in the way of fresh
water to survive. With water rates high and the fact that we live in a relatively arid environment, Xeriscaping has
benefits not only to you as a homeowner from a maintenance cost standpoint but also to the City because it would lower our
dependence upon UTRWD for water.
There are some good examples of Xeriscaptin for our climate that can be seen
at the Upper Trinity Regional Water District offices in Lewisville. The UTRWD office is located at 900 North Neely Street
in Lewisville. My question to you all is would a similar display and information at Highland Village City Hall describing
Xeriscaping be helpful to you? Would this concept be one that you might employ when planning your landscaping?
As always I am looking for your input. Don't forget to Vote on May 10.
